Teaching people to swim is a priority at the Y. We offer swim lessons for all levels beginning at 6 months through adult. Learn to swim – it’s a critical life skill.

Private Swim Instruction

This six-week program is for those who need individual attention in the water. Our instructor will work one on one with the student to gain confidence in the water and perfect their stroke. Space is very limited. To register, fill out a wait-list form. List several days and times when the student is available. Due to a high demand, we cannot guarantee the days and times requested. Approval is given by the Aquatics Manager.

If you are currently in swim lessons, read the back of your child's progress report for specific registration dates.
Step 1: Stop by the front desk prior to registration and have your (your child's) membership status form printed out. Bring it with you the day of your registration.

PRIORITY REGISTRATION: Sunday,March 12, 2017 9:00am - 11:00am (and continues until the first day of class or filled)
For currently enrolled Winter Lesson participants ONLY. Numbers will be given out beginning at 8:00 am. You must bring your child's swim progress report (the progress report was handed to you before the end of class).
RETURNING REGISTRATION: Monday March 13, 2017 9:00am (and continues until the first day of class or filled)
Registration continues for current and previous participants of our YMCA swim lessons. Child must be tested prior to registration date for proper placement if they have not participated in swim lessons in the Winter. Bring your child's swim progress report from the evaluation if your child participated in our winter lessons.
OPEN REGISTRATION: Saturday, March 18, 2017 9:00-11:00am (and continues until the first day of class or filled)
Open Registration for those new to our program or those who have previously been in our program. Please make sure your child has been tested prior to this registration period for proper placement. Spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Bring your child's swim evaluation with you that you received it when your child was tested.
You can register for swim classes at the front desk after the initial registration is complete. BRING YOU PROGRESS REPORT OR TEST EVALUATION & GMY PREVIOUS SWIM LESSON. Any registrants wishing to switch classes may do so beginning December 12th with the aquatic director's approval.
Registration will continue*:
Monday-Thursday 9 am-7 pm; Saturday 9 am-12:30 pm
You will not be allowed to register any other time.
*Skips I, II, Pikes and Polliwog I are entry-level classes. You may register for these classes at any time we are open, but you must adhere to the above registration priority dates. Swimmers in these levels do not have to be pre-tested.

Any child who did not participate in spring or winter lessons must be tested prior to registration. Pre-registration is required. Register by calling Marco (973) 267-0704 x15.
Your child should come prepared to go in the water. You only need to attend 1 testing date.
You do not have to have your child tested if you are registering for Skips I, Skips II, Pikes or Polliwog I.
We reserve the right to either change or remove your child from their registered swim class if we find they have been enrolled in the incorrect level.
Important Information Regarding Registration
- You can only register for swim classes with the Aquatics Staff. Once registered, those wishing to switch classes may do so after Open Registration with the Aquatic Director’s approval.
- Monday-Thursday 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
- Saturday 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
You will not be allowed to make changes at any other time.
- There is a $15 administrative fee for each change.
- Previous swimmers - you must bring your child's swim report card with you to registration.
Improve your muscular strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, and muscular endurance.
Benefits of Water Exercise:
- Buoyancy lessens impact on joints and thus the risk of injury.
- Water cools the body during exercise, to avoid overheating.
- Warm water increases blood circulation and promotes healing of injured tissues.
- Warm water relaxes tight muscles and increases joint motion.
Please note: Current pool schedules are located at the front desk too.
These classes run continuously throughout the year with occasional breaks during holiday weeks.
Shallow Water Exercise Class
An enjoyable fitness class that features conditioning and resistance training in shallow water (waist to chest deep). Non-swimmers welcome. Water shoes highly recommended. FREE with membership.

Deep Water Challenge
This program uses vigorous movements in deep water, guaranteed to give you a great workout with low impact. Participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in deep water. Aqua belts are required and provided. Participants must wear own water shoes. Class size limited to 15 participants. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. FREE with membership.

This class is for people seeking low-impact exercise to help alleviate pain and stiffness. A certified instructor leads range of motion, stretching, breathing exercises and light aerobis activities. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. FREE with membership.

Elite Divers SCUBA diving
Elite Divers is a premier SCUBA diving school. They offer a wide range of SCUBA diving courses from beginner to technical diving. Classes are held in our pool during off hours.
